12/15/2006 20h00 Bilbao (Spain) - Calle Hernani spot

When Rinus van Alebeek was in Paris in december 2006, he made a hop via Bordeaux to Bilbao, where on the 15th he performed at the 'Musica ex Machina' festival (and missed the Diktat performance that same evening in Paris). On the evening of his concert he picked up this tape'blop' there for me. We hear Frank Sinatra's "I've got you under my skin".

12/13/2006

I got a small package from Hamburg, with lots of tapemosphere related goodies (see picture). Balz, Béla and Block invited me to come to Köln in april 2007, and participate in the exhibition and activities they had planned there. The package also contained a loose bit of cassette tape. It was only much later though that I realized that Balz and Béla actually had recorded a message for me on that bit of tape; recorded while letting the tape run out on the ground ... "I see now the tape falling on the ground," we hear Balz saying, "it ... makes, makes images ... beautiful ..."

11/27/2006 Delhi (India)

On november 27th I got an email from Emmanuel Madan, whom I had met in the ETAY loft in Montreal, in february 2005. "I've been wandering around Delhi for the last two weeks," Emmanuel wrote, "and keep seeing halfway-unspooled cassette tape lying around on the street. So today when i saw another bit i picked it up. i can mail it to you if you give me your mailing address ..." As a rule I do not want others to search for and send me cast-away tapes, as the Exhibition should remain the documentation of a parcours personnel. Occasionally though I'll make an exception. Like in this case ... Actually, Emmanuel's tape did make quite a journey before arriving on my desk. He took it with him from India to Canada, send it a first time from there, but then it came back to him because apparently the postage was insufficient ... The second time he sent it, it did arrive. It was a complete tape, without cassette; unbroken, though somewhat messed up and badly folded here and there. It contains an album of what I guess is 'Indian pop music' ... It felt sort of special, to bring this thrown away piece of tape - that had been picked up in Delhi six months before and then traveled half of the globe - 'back to sound' here at my work desk in Paris ...
