SOUNDBLOG

curieus, curieuzer, curieust

february 16, 2003.

Since the first of this january, Otis Fodder, from Seatlle, Washington, posts a brand new audio curiosity every day, in mp3 format, downloadable from his otisfodder.com. He intends to continue to do so for the rest of 2003. With a little help from friends and visitors. All hunting for rare records and recordings, bizarre & curious tapes, radiophonics.

If you have a weak spot for the weird and the absurd - despite it being somewhat of the campy sort - you will enjoy this 365 Days project.
Listening to Otis's collection is a bit like washing my ears out; pretty daft, some of the time, sometimes nothing short of brilliant; usually good for a smile, occasionally for shouts of wild laughter. I mean: do not miss this!
There's School Band Music, lots of Product Music, karaoke recording-booth-in-amusement-park recordings, mysterious cassette recordings, tracks with a religious twist (on sundays), and more, more, more...
Here are direct links to a couple of my january favorites: "Understanding Marx", by Red Shadow (from 1975), [sundays:] "I'm A Mormon" by Janeen Brady & The Brite Singers, Hidden & Satanic Messages In Rock Music (excerpts from a 1981 Christian radio show hosted by Michael Mills, a man with a mission: exposing the threat of secret messages in rock music) ...

Btw, pretty much all of the stuff at 365 Days, at least so far, is very American.
With one curious Dutch exception: a very recent school music recording, contributed by Jan Turkenburg, a Dutch music teacher...

Jan's class sings Supertramp's "Dreamer" (from their Crime of the Century).
In English, of course.

[ added 02.17 :: Auddities might be a good word to use for bringing across the spirit of Odder's collection ... like in: "An auddity a day keeps the doctor away". ]

[ note jan. 2004 :: the 365Days project was completed on 31.12.2003; the 365 mp3's are, as of jan. 5th, 2004 no longer available for download from Otis Fodder's site. The project has been archived, the accompanying texts and images are still available.
note june 2004 :: the complete 365Days archive, inluding all the 365 mp3 files (!), is availabe at ubuweb ]

[ Other one year projects: OotB, My2k :: next related SB-entries: 52 splogweeks, 365 Days's Back ]
