Go DREAM unPublic: DA-1897-1446-0350_____

Watch a series of short machinimated poems on YouTube ...

The ACNH island 'unPublic' is named after the 'unPublic' project, a series of freely improvised concerts of experimental (or, as I rather say: 'speculative') electro-acoustic music, with no audience, that I have been organising on a regular basis with my friend and colleague Emmanuel Ferrand, starting in October 2013.

Each one of these events is recorded, edited (sometimes but little, sometimes a lot), and subsequently released as a digital audio album. All albums are available at Bandcamp. Currently there are 69 of them, with contributions from a total of 154 artists/musicians of 28 different nationalities. The total playing time is 2 days, 18 hours 1 minute and 34 seconds.

A main raison d'être for the unPublic island is the idea to attempt to record 'equivalents' of the 'physical unPublics' within ACNH: i.e. organisea series of virtual unPublic concerts, improvised performances, using the —as far as 'notes' are concerned basically random— sounds obtained by having your avatar 'hitting' the extremely limited, monophonic and mono-dynamic instruments that are available in the game.

C A L L   to contribute: if you are interested in participating in such an 'unPublic ACNH event' as an improviser, do let me know ! By email (try hars7[at]mac[dot]com) or otherwise .... :-)

There is a small coffee corner set up just to the left after you leave the airport, for you to sit and relax.

But you can of course also just walk, run, fish, twist, slide, jive, jump, dance [or be in whatever other way] anywhere on the island.
If you bring or buy a wet suit even the ocean is an option ...

...

You will find a number of (interactive) sound installations on the island, and a few vey simple visual set-ups, which have, I think, a certain ... poetic ... quality. They are there for you just to look at and —maybe— contemplate.

...

unCoupled Oscillators [1] is a line built with 94 clicking metronomes posed on cardboard boxes. You can follow this "metro-line", which runs from the west coast to the east coast of the island. Some subsets of the clicking ensemble will be neatly synchronised, all ticking along to the same beat, while others are totally 'out of sync'. But then, at times, when you re-pass, the synchronised ones became a-synchronous and vice-versa, without rhyme or reason (or so it seems).

Can you un-cover the logic?

Feel free to experiment, to stop and/or restart metronomes at your wish...

The metro-line is adorned with 26 small portable radio's. The sounds of the radio's mask the game's dominant soundtrack... That is, when you are close to them and look up).>Next to each radio there is a small cushion for you to sit and listen to the clicking mixed with the radio's sound.

At several spots along the line, you will be watching (and maybe contemplating :) a scenery dominated by a number of [more or less random] 'fossile assemblages' ... That is —is it not?— remarkably similar to what one will see staring out of the window during your average trans-urban train ride ...

On the northern side of the island, not far from the museum, you will find the Temple of GonGs [2], an open space for ritual built with 17 gongs. Up to you to create your ritual, and hit them, or not hit them, in whatever way you see and for as long as you deem fit. These GonG's do make a lot of fine noizzze. Whether it will please the gods (or, at least, the island's animals), is what remains to be seen...

The unPublic Mansion [6] is on a hill near the eastern beach on the north side of the island. It has four music rooms, intended to be used for ANHC 'unPublic' sessions. Do feel free to play around and try out the instruments, as you please !

The mansion's 'salon' is the electric room, filled with electric guitars, basses and a drum kit.

The large first floor room is set up for a 'classical' ensemble: 2 grand piano's, a string quartet, harps ...

In the back room you will find my small collection of (fake and real) classic visual art, with two saxophones, marimba's ...

The left room has two pipe organs ...

The right one, then, is sort of ... private ...

The basement of the unPublic mansion is a virtual sound installation called: _cogs in cogs in wheels in circles_
Its four walls are decorated with 43 identical sets of turning and grinding gears...
